Do You Want to be Made Well?

A blog by Janice Colon-Crespo - Soul of Worship Ministry Team Member

John 5
6 When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”

7 The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”

8 Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.

9 And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked.

Do you want to be healed? Do you want to be set free?

Such a simple question with so much meaning. This man was sick for 38 years and what was his response?

“I have no one to help me.”

At first, we can have compassion for a man that longed to be made well but didn't have anyone to carry him to the place where healing could take place.

But here's a little tough love.

There are times in our life when we will need to have faith and pray for ourselves. We will need the confidence to take action on our own.

There are some struggles others will not be able to pray us out of and situations that don't require someone else to lay hands on us.

In order to be healed, in order to be set free, WE have to want it, actually desire it for ourselves deep down.

Like the prodigal son sitting in the hogs' pen, he had to decide. He had to take the first step to get to his father. A conscience decision had to be made.

Did this man want to be made well or had the desire gone from him after so many years?

Did his hopes lie in others helping him rather than him helping himself?

Do we want to be made well or are we comfortable just laying there in our illness, in our pain, or in our unhappiness?

Are we so complacent laying there waiting for someone else to help us? Blaming them for us not being delivered?

Do we want to be made well?

Jesus said “Rise, take up your bed and walk.

The desire was there, and the man's healing came by faith in action!

So take up your bed and walk!

Take what made you comfortable in your illness as a reminder of what you were healed from.

Pick up that pain and carry it to show others that you are no longer a slave to it. That it no longer holds you captive! You are no longer resting in the comfort of your pain and iniquities.

Do you want to be made well?

Then rise up and walk!
