The Revelation of the Mulberry Tree

So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.

Luke 17:6 

When Jesus spoke in Luke 17:6, His use of the mulberry tree is purposeful.

Have you ever seen a Mulberry Tree?

It is known for one specific characteristic: its vigorous root growth.

So, if you garden you know that trying to pull even a weed out can make you break a sweat to get it from the root, so imagine a mulberry tree, with its wide and deep, penetrating roots!

This means that Jesus was telling us that with faith as small as a mustard seed, I can uproot and move a mulberry tree! 

Often, we get stuck in our own ways and say “that’s just the way I am, I can’t change” when in fact no, that is not how God created us.

We may have deep-rooted bitterness or resentment that affect us in ways we can’t even imagine.

When left to grow close to a foundation, the roots of mulberry trees can cause foundation problems and not in the way that you think. The roots don't necessarily penetrate the foundational materials, but the robust root growth becomes a problem when the roots affect the strength of the soil beneath the foundation.

The soil-bearing capacity under your foundation is critical for supporting the weight of your home. Root growth causes foundational problems when it weakens the soil and causes it to subside.

So even if you don’t realize it, those deep roots of bitterness, anger, resentment, or trauma are developing more and more within you until it causes damages you didn’t expect. When those roots are left ignored, our spiritual home will slowly crumble.

But if we put our faith in God and allow Him to work in us and if we have faith to allow God to change us, then we will see the mulberry trees in our lives be uprooted and planted by the sea, away from our foundation!

Let's not allow bitterness or resentment to sit deep down in our hearts, ignorantly thinking it's not affecting us.  

Find the freedom to uproot those things not bearing fruit in your life. Do not allow any more damage to your foundation. 

It won’t be easy and it may even hurt, but by faith, you will be free.
