There are 2 different instances in the Bible where we are being commanded to do good service as to the LORD and not to men:
Ephesians 6:7-8
"...with goodwill doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men, knowing that whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free."Colossians 3:23-24
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."
How different would your perspective be if you saw each person as Jesus?
Would you be more willing to help? Would you then help with a smile?
How often do we mumble under our breath as we begrudgingly do something for someone else?
How often do we say, “They better not ask me cause I’m not doing it,” before someone even asks?
How easy it is to help when it's on our own terms?
What if God got up and looked at you and said, “Well I helped her the other day and I’m tired so today don’t ask me for anything.” Or, “Again she needs help? Why can’t she get it together already?”
Could you imagine if God treated us in the way we treat each other?
Having a servant's heart or attitude is not easy. It takes time and sacrifice. It takes being intentional. But the reward is in knowing that God will do the same for you and that makes it worth it.
These verses in Ephesians and Colossians are promises from God, that we will receive the same from Him. I want to be sure that all good things come my way from the heart of God, not with an attitude.
My prayer is that God will help each of us to be better examples and use our hands and feet to make a difference for His Kingdom. And that our motivation to help others be pure and God centered.
I pray that we will help others without grumbling or complaining but rather as if we were serving Jesus Himself - because we are.
His servant,
Janice C.
